A plain explanation of what the site collects and what it does not.

A quiet desk with stacked notebooks

This page describes how the site handles visitor data. The library is a static site hosted on a content delivery network. It is intentionally minimal in what it collects. If anything on this page changes in future, the page will be revised and a short note will be added to the changelog.

What the site collects

The library does not run any analytics product, advertising script, or behavioural tracking system at launch. There is no cookie that records who you are, what pages you read, or how long you spent on them.

A small amount of information is unavoidable when any website is visited.

  • Standard server logs. The hosting platform records the request your browser made, including the IP address and the user-agent string. These logs are kept for a short period and used only for diagnostic purposes such as investigating errors and abuse.
  • Search queries. When you use the search box, the query string is sent to your browser only. The search index is loaded from a static JSON file and the matching is done in your browser. The site does not record what you searched for.

That is the full list. The library does not run a heatmap, a session recorder, a fingerprinting library, an A/B testing platform, or a tag manager.

Cookies

The library does not set any cookies at launch. The hosting platform may set a small operational cookie in unusual circumstances, for example for security checks against abusive traffic. If standard cookies are introduced in future, this page will be revised first.

Email

If you contact the editors via the email address listed on the contact page, your email is processed by the email provider used by the library. Messages are kept only as long as needed to reply or follow up on a correction. They are not added to a marketing list, because there is no marketing list.

Newsletters

The library does not run a newsletter at launch. If a newsletter is introduced in future, it will be opt-in only and will be described on this page before it is offered.

Embedded content

The library does not embed videos, social media widgets, third-party fonts, third-party icons, third-party comment systems, or third-party analytics at launch. Pages are static and load from the same domain.

Children

The library is written for adults but does not collect personal data from anyone, regardless of age. Pages on wellbeing and relationships are written carefully and are educational rather than promotional.

Your rights

Because the library does not collect personal data beyond standard server logs, there is very little to request, correct, or delete. If you have written to the editors and would like the email correspondence deleted, please ask via the same email address. The team will confirm when the messages have been removed.

Changes to this page

This page may be revised in future, particularly if hosting arrangements change or new functionality is introduced. Material changes will be noted on the changelog. Minor corrections will not be.

For privacy questions specifically, please use the email address on the contact page and include the word "privacy" in the subject line. That helps route the message to the right person more quickly.
